WiFi Repeater: Buying Guide on Black Friday

The wireless signal of your router is unable to cover the whole house, then you were thinking of taking a WiFi repeater to solve the problem but before purchasing you like to get some advice on how to choose one that best suits your needs?

Here’s a brief overview of the features that you must consider before purchasing a WiFi repeater (also called range extender) followed by some advice on the most interesting products currently found in shops.

When you buy a WiFi repeater must make sure that it is perfectly compatible with the router / modem you have. It needs not necessarily to be of the same brand, even though it would be preferable to minimize the risk of malfunction.

With regard to the technical specifications, although now most of the repeater supports all the latest wireless standard, watch a couple of entries. First verifies the classes supported by the device, which must not be lower than those supported by the router. As I explained in my guide for the purchase of a WiFi router, there are three classes wireless and each of them provides the fastest data transfer different: B up to 11 Mbps, the G up to 54 Mbps and N supports up to 300 Mbps.

Then there are the so-called dual-band devices, both router range extender, which in addition to supporting the 2.4 GHz radio band to also operate on the 5 GHz that avoids interference but is not yet supported by all devices.

Other features that you must consider before buying a wireless repeater are the number of Ethernet ports that comes with the device (for connecting computers, decoders and other devices via cable) and – very banal – its size. There are extremely compact repeater that can be connected directly to the wall outlet (in these cases, unlikely to have more than one Ethernet port) and repeater a more ” traditional ” that have the same look as a router.

Once seen – briefly – the features to consider when choosing a WiFi repeater, we pass the names of some extender between the most attractive on the market today.
